Michigan City High School Marching Band Ends Season on a Gold Note

The Michigan City High School Marching Band under the direction of Quincy Ford and the Color Guard under the direction of Trish Foltz competed and received gold ratings and special achievements all season long with the lone exception of one silver rating. This season’s selections were from the musical Rent. The band and color guard support the high school and perform at all home football games, visit middle schools and compete in regional festival and invitationals.

Last month the band and color guard celebrated their season and recognized outstanding students at their award banquet. Students were recognized in
the following categories:

Rookie of the Year- Isaiah Barzcak, Courtney Hart, Hannah Moore and
Mikiah Williams

Most Improved- Grace Gaertner, Jocelyn Langford, Devin Newton and Dalyn Watson

MVP- Jaelyn Nowatske, Alexander Rice, Hannah Tubbs and John Young; Soloists- Suzanne Kaiser, Tia Maijed, Jaelyn Nowatske, Keith Patejdl, Rebecca Richmond and Hannah Tubbs; Section Leaders- Andrew Boklund, Suzanne Kaiser, Amy Kotaska, Sarah Lynch, Ellisha Martin, Alexis Nowatzke, Jaelyn Nowatzke and Steven Siegmund; Drum Major- Olivia Glowacki; Assistant Drum Major- Greg Jamieson.

Receiving marching band letters were Nick Becker, Austin Bethke, Kory
Blacksten, Sylvia Fitzpatrick, Alijah George, Devin Hence, Cassie Mason,
Devin Newton, Hannah Tubbs, Darby Woolslayer and Domanic Wren.

Receiving chevrons were Chevron #1- Chizell Crawford, Gabriell German and Sara
Vinson, Chevron #2- Scott Bailey, Jaelyn Nowatzke and LaShaunda Riddle; Chevron #3- Morgan Goldman, Jocelyn Langford, Sarah Lynch, Spencer Marsh, Ellisha
Martin, Alexis Nowatzke and Jaelyn Nowatzke; Chevron #4- Greg Jamieson,
Amy Kotaska. Tia Majied and Allen Murray. Receiving Stars were Silver Star- Justin Smoker and Grant Wozniak; Gold Star- Olivia Glowacki, Justin Smoker and Grant Wozniak.

Platinum Plaques were awarded to Andrew Boklund and Steven Siegmund. The Phenomenal Five award went to 5-year members Olivia Glowacki and Steven Siegmund.

Color Guard letters were awarded to Tayler Bowman Tamira Hall, Anisa
Higginbotham, Hannah Tubbs and Alysa Will- Grater.

Chevrons were awarded Chevron #1 – Emily Glowacki, Chevron #2 – Tia Majied and Chevron #3 – Rebecca Richmond. Also recognized were Section Leader – Emily Glowacki, Senior Captain – Rebecca Richmond and Junior Captain – Tia Majied.

2014 Parent Volunteer Awards were presented to Lydia Altherr, Sherry Altherr, Brenda Becker, Tom Smoker and Julie Wozniak.
