One season ends, another begins

As winter sports come to an end, spring sports are just beginning. Our spring sports include boys’ golf, boys’ and girls’ track and field, girls’ tennis, softball, and baseball. The boys’ golf coach is Jason Lenig, and he expects to have four out of five varsity boys return this season. He is also hoping the team will finish in the top half of the DAC.

“My favorite part of coaching is being with the kids,” Lenig stated, “They work hard on improving their games and put in many hours.”

Lucas Snyder is the boys’ track and field coach, and he likes working with the athletes to help them improve their skills. He is hoping they will improve as a team and will become more competitive athletes in the DAC.

Snyder said, “Two years ago we only had one hurdler on the entire team, this year I want to get four to regionals.”

The girls’ track and field coach is Timothy Bumber. He is hoping his team will gain more confidence based on Junior Jasmine McLemore’s accomplishments from last season. He wants as many athletes to go to state as possible, where they have the chance to
earn all-state honors, scholarships, and many memories.

“Our team has many juniors and seniors who have been through the wars and know what to expect as they progress through the season,”
Bumber stated.

Don Varda is coaching the girls’ tennis team, and hopes the team will win their 15th consecutive sectional. The teams’ confidence has improved and the girls are not afraid to take control of a point he explained.

“The team will have an excellent season this year,” Varda said, “We
have some experienced players and some new players who have worked
hard in the off season.”

Joshua Malone is the boys’ baseball coach, and he believes the team
will have a sucessful year.

“As a team we are going to be relativly young in terms of Varsity
experience, but I expect our team to be competative game in and game out,” Malone explained.

Hopefully, the athletes will excel this in the DAC this season.
