As September has fallen upon the LaPorte County area, so have an abundance of things to do.

To kick off the month, the Labor Days Festival begins on the fourth and goes through the seventh down at Washington Park. Also beginning on the fourth is the 5th Annual Fellowship Fest. The festival lasts only until the fifth. The Fellowship Fest can be found at the LaPorte County Fairgrounds in LaPorte. Also, note that there will be free food to eat and bands to listen to.

Coming up with on September 12th is the 10th Anniversary of Hoosier Star. Hoosier Star is a singing event that happens every year and focus on the talented young people in Indiana. Aaron Garrett, one of MCHS’s very own councilors, has actually performed, and won a trophy, from participating in the Hoosier Star competition.

On the same day as the Hoosier Star competition is the 3rd Annual Popcorn Panic 5 Mile in Central Park Plaza, Valparaiso. The event starts at 7:30 A.M. on the 12th.

Yet another event that takes place on the twelfth day of September is Garwood Orchards’ Applefest. Garwood is a family friendly environment with plenty of things to do. Some of these things picking various types of apples, other fruits and vegetables, and an assortment of other fun activities.

Some things to keep in mind as September continues are: the Miss Teen Latina Indiana pageant (Sept. 27), the Big Comedy Little Theater event in LaPorte, the ACT registration deadline is on the 18th, and last, but not least, always remember that September is National Be Kind to Editors and Writers month.
