The MCHS Wolfpack Marching band brought their season to a close on Saturday, October 10, 2015 at Highland High School. This was their fifth and final competition of the season and it was more than successful.
Last year the band performed at Highland but received a silver rating. This year, the band made a full comeback and received a gold rating and achievements in music, visuals, and general effect. They also came in first place with a score of 917 out of 1000. The performance was dedicated to the senior drum major, Greg Jamieson’s mom, Theresa Jamieson, who passed away last year.
Over the course of the season the band has earned all gold ratings and a visual achievement at Rensselaer Central on September 26. With Mr. Ford’s retirement last year, a new band teacher was brought in to direct the band. With Mr. Merrick in charge of the band this year, they have had to adapt to a new way of doing things.
As much as the season has been successful, it has not happened without challenges. “The curse of the mummy” as the band calls it, has struck multiple times. The first football game that they were supposed to perform at was cancelled right before halftime but they walked out with their heads held high. At the last home football game of the year they were stopped right before the third song of their show. After this game they stayed and performed the whole show in front of the remaining people in the stands and right before their last competition, the buses did not show up on time to take them to Highland.
Next year will be the bands first seasons fully under the direction of Mr. Merrick and the band cannot wait to see what he has in store for them.
