The Broadway musical Hamilton is catching fire as it continues to make money and break records. It is a new American musical depicting the life of our founding father Alexander Hamilton.

The book, music, and lyrics were written by Lin-Manuel Miranda who also wrote the music and lyrics for “In the Heights” a musical which won best musical at the 2008 Tony Awards.

“Hamilton” has already won the Drama Desk award for Best Musical on its off- Broadway run and is one of the front runners for the Tony Award in 2016.

The music in this show is not your traditional Broadway sound. It’s a “rap” musical featuring genres such as hip-hop, rap, and R & B. Currently this week the Original Cast Album of “Hamilton” is ranked fifth on the charts behind Drake, Future, Fetty Wap, and Mac Miller. This success comes from the backing of Warner’s Atlantic Records who has helped push the album into the spotlight.

The music is not the only thing interesting about this show. The story of Alexander Hamilton told through music captures his life and helps showcase how he had a hand in creating the country we all know and love today.

The casting for this show is another thing that makes it stand out. They are telling the story of yesterday with the people of today by casting mainly minority cast members.
