Typically when people think of holidays, they think of the conventional holidays. Holidays like Christmas, Thanksgiving, and Hanukkah are all examples of rather mainstream holidays. Some holidays people do not know about, though, are ones like “TV Talk Show Host Day”, “Howl at the Moon Day”, and “Brandied Fruit Day.” Not only are these holidays bizarre, they are just unheard of. So, on October 23, people across the country celebrate National TV Talk Show Host Day.
TV talk show host day is celebrated today, on October 23, every year. This date is also Johnny Carson’s birthday. Talk show host day is held in commemoration of one of the most iconic figures in talk show history. Johnny Carson’s career on the Tonight Show began in 1950 when he replaced Jack Paar as the host. Carson interviewed stars of Hollywood, pop-culture, and the political arena, including his interview with President Ronald Reagan. As his career went on, he became more and more famous. Audiences found comfort in Carson’s calm and steady presence in their living rooms each evening. But Johnny Carson is not the only legendary host this country has seen.
Talk show hosts entertain everyone with their monologues, interviews, clever jokes, and anything else they can cook up. Just a couple of more names are Jimmy Kimmel, Jon Stewart, Jimmy Fallon, and Stephen Colbert.
To celebrate this holiday, people around the country can watch a marathon of talk shows, use #TVTalkShowHostDay on social media sites, and watch their favorite talk show hosts. Happy Talk Show Host Day!
