The girls’ basketball team lost to the Chesterton Trojans Friday in the Wolves’ Den.

City had a rough start at the beginning of the game as Chesterton made two three-pointers to take the lead to 0-6. The Trojans made another basket, followed by a basket by City, taking the scoreboard to 2-8.

The Wolves made a comeback in the middle of the first quarter, getting a 10-9 lead. City maintained their consistent lead until Chesterton caught up with some three-pointers and got ahead by four points to make it 18-22. The Wolves caught back up to the Trojans with visits to the free throw line, however. At the end of the first half, City was only down by one with the scoreboard reading 27-28.

City was able to keep up with Chesterton in the first half but fizzled out in the second half. The first basket in the second half was made by the Trojans, and with three minutes left in the third quarter, Chesterton had an eight-point lead.

Chesterton continued their power streak, and City was unable to touch the Trojans. Chesterton had as much as a ten-point lead in the third quarter. A few points made by the Wolves caused Chesterton to take a time out, but the end of the quarter was in Chesterton’s favor with a score of 37-45.

In the fourth quarter, City had visits to the free throw line, but missed shots resulted in missed opportunities to close the score gap. Chesterton closed out the game with a final score of 55-66.

City plays again in the Wolves Den next Friday against Lake Central. Play begins at 7:00.
