Gymnast Megan Gushrowski won the individual all around title Monday night in the Wolves’ competition against the Portage Indians.

“Going into the meet I told myself, ‘I’m just going to try to do my skills the best I can and not worry about score,'” said Gushrowski.

Gushrowski’s all around score was a 35.825. Her score included second place finishes on vault with an 8.8, on bars with an 8.775, and on beam with a 9.2. Her beam and floor scores (9.05) were highs for the team in both events.

Gushrowski said her biggest accomplishment of the night was a skill during her bar routine- a kip squat on connection. She fell on this skill at last season’s sectional competition, so making the connection in her routine Monday was a huge success. Bars is also the event where Gushrowski strives to improve the most throughout the rest of the season and has a personal goal of 9.0 score on the event.

“My routine (at Portage) definitely got me closer to my goals,” said Gushrowski. “I made my kip squat on. I’m fixing my skills to get that higher score.”

With a week off until the next meet, Gushrowski is ready to get to practice to work even harder in the gym.

“I’m going to clean up my skills and hopefully add new skills in my routine,” she said.

While Gushrowski had a phenomenal night, the Wolves lost to Portage, 107.125-104.925.

City’s next meet is Tuesday, January 26 in the Wolves Den against Chesterton. Come out and support the Wolves in their home opener!
