Early World Series projections

Drew Hanft, Sports Reporter

Spring Training baseball is in the air across the south and that means that people are already starting to make World Series bets on who is going to be crowned world champions come October.

The team who is claimed to have the highest chance of winning the World Series so far according to OddsShark.com is the Chicago Cubs who are coming off a 97-65 season.  The Cubs had an outstanding offseason by signing outfielder Jason Heyward and veteran starting pitcher John Lackey.  The Cubs now have a lineup to be feared by pitchers daily from slots one through nine.

Behind the Cubs are the New York Mets who knocked the Cubs out of the playoffs in the NLCS this past season.  The Mets return practically everyone on their starting roster from last year’s playoff team and boast baseball’s best starting pitching staff.

The highlight of the Mets’ offseason was resigning all-star outfielder Yoenis Cespedes.  The Mets are looking to return to the big stage of October baseball after being dominated in just 5 games by the Kansas City Royals in the World Series last year.

In the American League, the Tampa Bay Rays, Cleveland Indians, Boston Red Sox, and last year’s World Series champions Kansas City Royals are among favorites to represent the American League in the fall classic.

While it seems that come October, analysts’ projections almost never end up being accurate, it is always fun to listen to all of the preseason hype and hope that our favorite teams are still playing baseball come the fall season.
