In Latin, chocolate means “Food of Gods” for a reason. Chocolate is one of the most popular super-foods ever. Chocolate candy bars and sweets is not what is good for you, but the dark chocolate has history of being a healing plant, mood enhancer, and also an aphrodisiac(a drug, food, or drink that stimulates sexual desire”. Eating dark chocolate affects your brain by releasing “happiness neurotransmitters” and aside form tasting so good, it also improves performance in lesser known ways.

Studies have been done that show when you consume dark chocolate, there is a reduction in appetite. Eating dark chocolate before a meal was correlated with a 17% lower calorie intake. Consuming a regular amount of chocolate each day also improves your cardiovascular health as well. A Swedish study showed that if you intake more than 45 grams of chocolate a week(about 2 bars) your risk of having a stroke decreases about twenty percent. It also reduces the risk of having a heart attack, because eating chocolate lowers blood clots.

As well as keeping you healthy, it also helps your skin when you intake dark chocolate. When you consume chocolate is helps to maintain healthy skin by modulating healthy blood flow. Also flavonoids found in dark chocolate protect women’s skin from the sun’s UV rays, according to a German study.

Jeanne Louise Calment was the oldest person to have ever lived to the age of 122 and she consumed two and a half pounds of chocolate every week. Researchers at Harvard found that eating chocolate actually adds two years to your life expectancy.

But it isn’t just found in any chocolate you can pick up from the grocery store or local gas station, Most of that chocolate is heavily processed and it has lost many of its healthy chemicals. Chocolates that have a ton of flavanols in them are the healthier chocolates and they consist of a higher percentage of cocoa. If the nutrition have a label “processed with alkia” on it, then that brand of chocolate is going to have less flavanols it in and that is the unhealthy chocolate.

Chocolate has its many benefits when consuming the right kinds and a healthy amount. Looking at the labels and checking to see if it is made with many flavanols will help your body and your skin as well!
