Small bird #FeelsTheBern at Sanders rally

A small bird landed on presidential candidate Bernie Sanders’ podium during his rally in Portland, Oregon, and his crowd went wild.

Sanders was in the middle of talking about the importance of schoolwork when the crowd notified him that a small, female house finch landed on the stage. The candidate proceeded to laugh, and, as he was in the middle of saying “this little bird doesn’t know it, but,” the bird flew onto his podium. The crowd went insane as Sanders shook his head at the small creature and smiled.

After the bird flew away, Sanders said, “I think there may be some symbolism here. I know it doesn’t look like it, but that bird is really a dove asking us for world peace. No more wars.”

After the rally, #BirdieSanders was trending on Twitter for the rest of the night, and many meme creators took advantage of the odd occurrence. For example, many people tweeted photoshopped or drawn pictures of Sanders wearing a princess dress similar to Cinderella’s while holding a bird on his finger.

Some internet users thought that the bird may have landed on Sanders’ podium due to the fact that he has been preaching his environmentally progressive ideals since the beginning of his campaign. Twitter user, @Tehelmin, tweeted a picture of the bird on Sanders’ podium with the meme caption, “When you preach helping nature and it comes to say thank you.”
