Upcoming at the Zoo

Emily Gushrowski, Feature Writer

Washington Park’s annual Boo at the Zoo is scheduled for Saturday October 21, 2017 at 115 Lake Shore Drive Michigan City, IN.  Due to traditional large crowds, the fun-filled Halloween event will feature two sessions of trick-or-treating to avoid long lines and keep everyone safe.  Washington park also decorates the zoo in accordance to the event.

Boo at the Zoo provides an environment for kids to experience child-friendly trick-or-treating.  Local business sponsor the trick-or-treating by setting up booths to hand out candy and other items to children.  Families enjoy walking around the zoo, getting to see the featured animals and participating in activities aside to the trick-or-treating.

The gates for the first session will open at 11:30 and close at 1:30.  Trick-or-treating and zoo attractions will conclude at 2:00.  At 3:30, the gates will reopen to start the second session and then close at 5:30, with trick-or-treating and zoo activities ending at 6:00.

The zoo is expecting for over 3000 guests to attend this year, coming from Michigan City and surrounding areas.  The staff at the zoo is recommending that people purchase tickets in advance, since there will be a cut off in ticket sales once the maximum capacity has been reached.  Ages 2 and under are free and do not need tickets to enter the zoo.  An adult non member ticket is $6.27, and a child non member ticket is $5.27.  Donations are welcomed and appreciated.

The zoo will be closed to the public for Boo at the Zoo and will not allow general admission in, only the event ticket holders will be allowed to enter.  The zoo staff awaits the exciting day to come.
