On April 16, 2018, Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson received a contract extension making him the highest paid player in NFL History. The contract is four years for $140 million, including a $65 million signing bonus.

Wilson announced his signing early Tuesday morning on Twitter alongside his wife: famous American singer Ciara.

Within the video, Russell tells Seahawks’ fans “We got a deal.”

Hours later, Wilson tweeted “To Mark Rodgers my agent & father figure… You believed in me 10 years ago when no one else would.. Thanks for being who you are as a man and as a friend. You are the best in the game.”

Wilson was drafted 75th overall on April 27, 2012 in the NFL Draft.

Since then, he’s made it apparent that he wants to play professional football in Seattle, Washington for a very long time.

Wilson has started in every game in his seven year career. In those seven years, the Seahawks have made the playoffs six times. He’s also led the team to win their division three times, the NFC Championship two times, and closed it out with one Super Bowl title against Peyton Manning and the Denver Broncos.

Russell Wilson finished the 2018 season with 3,448 yards, 35 touchdowns, and 7 interceptions.

His career stats are 25,624 yards, 196 touchdowns, and 63 interceptions.

The Seattle Seahawks open their season at home against the Cincinnati Bengals on September 8, 2019. According to the team’s official website, this is “just the seventh time in the last 20 seasons, the Seahawks will open the year at home”.
