The Cityzen

Erik Hultgren

Erik Hultgren, News Reporter

Writing has not always came easy for Erik Hultgren. From an early age he felt like writing was just a boring necessity that he was forced to do to pass classes. Erik often suffered from writer’s block and had a distaste for the prompts that his teachers gave him. That was until the seventh grade, when he got to write for his school’s newspaper. Erik was not enthusiastic about writing for the newspaper at first, but after writing a few articles something started to click. For years Erik had been writing papers and stories about things he didn’t care about, and topics that others had given him. Erik realized that through journalism he could write about the things he loved, and truly express himself. Today, Hultgren is a senior at Michigan City High School, and he hopes that he can use his writing to keep others in the community informed, and open them up to new ideas. He enjoys writing about a variety of things including sports, local news, and world news. One of Erik’s favorite things about journalism is how it can expose people to new topics and discussions. Erik is excited to have joined the Cityzen and is looking forward to a great 18-19 year.
