The Cityzen

Marcus Lester

Marcus Lester, News Reporter

Marcus Lester discovered his interest in writing at the age of twelve. In his 7th grade English class, he was required to write a lot and realized that he was good at it. Eventually, he began to write a lot in his free time. He always asked his teacher to assign him prompts so that he could practice. Then, Marcus started writing on a more personal level. Whenever he felt like he would stress out over something such as a big test or a big performance, he would write about it. Doing this makes him feel  a lot better about situations and serves as a stress reliever.

He loves writing because he’s not limited to anything and can write whatever makes him feel good. Marcus feels like writing sets him free emotionally. He also took out the time to write about personal experiences that he remembers as a child. Marcus then discovered that after all the things that he’s been through, that writing has become an outlet for him.  He felt that if he joined the newspaper staff, he would be able to expand his creativity and writing skills.

He is interested in knowing exactly what’s going on in the school and the different activities people participate in, which is why he joined the Cityzen. He believes that joining the staff would also help him get to meet more people.  For a long time, Marcus wrote short stories in his free time, but then discovered that he could use his creativity when writing songs.  In the future, Marcus plans to possibly write songs for big names in the music industry. It is important to him to get better at writing because he feels it can take him far.
