Mohammad Hakim, News Reporter

Mohammad Hakim is a senior at Michigan City High School, and a staff member of his respective school paper, The Cityzen. Journalism connects us with our surroundings and brings to light aspects of the world that would otherwise go unnoticed. He values writing for its ability to describe in vivid details. Hakim has also stated how being able to manipulate language to convey even the deepest meanings and loves every aspect of it. Being a part of journalism affects him personally because of how he can be a part of that experience on a daily basis. “Being able to search and observe and bring the news to the people around me is one of the greatest experiences I’ve been able to enjoy” Hakim says. This realization came to him very recently while being at school. While being an observer of the process from the background Hakim slowly became intrigued. He learned how everyone worked together towards a finished product. “The newspaper had so many minds putting it together and I wanted to be one of them” says Mohammad. Hakim’s interest for writing includes world new and other global issues that occur. The young journalist feels the impact they bring and appreciates the cultural differences that connect us all. Mohammad also enjoys journalism that touches on the lives of his own community. The biggest appeal with this is that it’s so personal and connected. As a citizen reading his own news it gives a sense of involvement and pride that draws one’s self into their own community. Journalism, writing, and reporting each have their place in Mohammad Hakim’s life. Hakim plans to continue with it and work towards his own personal goals with enthusiasm while enjoying a certain sense of belonging.
