The Cityzen

Sydney Merrill
Sydney Merrill is a sophomore at Michigan City High School, and a newcomer to the Cityzen Newspaper Staff. She attended three years of junior high at Barker Middle School, and started at MCHS in 2015. Ms. Merrill, who prefers to be called “Syd”, is nothing short of a perfectionist, and aspires to continue this trend through her high school career. In the future, she dreams of becoming a surgeon. Ms. Merrill is a member of the cross country team, and plans on running track in the spring. She would also like to take part in the mathlete team again this year. She lives with her mother, father, younger sister, gerbil, and bunny. Sydney's favorite subject in school is English. She has been described by past teachers as creative, motivated, and as having a way with words. She was thrilled to learn that MCHS offered a journalism class, immediately signed up. During a Spanish class, Sydney found an older copy of the Cityzen and asked her teacher if the club was still running. She was informed that it was a class hour, and that journalism was the only required prerequisite. After completing journalism as a high school freshman, a spot on the Cityzen Staff was offered to her.
